The New Industrial City Avoiding the urge to normalize, or naturalize, the relationship between the site and the fabric of the surrounding city, this project – centered around the abandoned ‘Public Place’ – exposes the troubled history of the site and presents the ‘ground’ as both a physically inaccessible site undergoing remediation and a visually surveyable, polluted terrain. Hence, the project focuses specifically on the boundary conditions of the intervention, creating two programmatic nodes to the north and south of the central, elevated spine while also including urban “ha-ha’s” to the west and a new Public Place to the east.
