Working independently on the first of three components of the 2013 Building Project, I was tasked with developing a housing prototype that could conform to one of New Haven’s many narrow lots. Because of the unique size of the plots, many sit abandoned and overgrown, and have become a increasing problem for the Municipality. In order to meet the tight constraints of the lot, this project derives its form and spatial relationships from an in-depth precedent study of the Hereschoff NY 30 Class wooden racing boat. Essentially, the boat is reinterpreted at the scale of the house and capitalizes on the programmatic density and performative rigor of the original form.
